About Us

Mission Statement

Rescue Bank, a program of the non-profit GreaterGood.org, supports animal welfare groups by providing grants of donated pet food. We primarily serve smaller groups that have limited resources, increasing their visibility and providing greater access to supplies.

Our History

Based on their experience during the Hurricane Katrina response, Elizabeth Asher and John Kane started Rescue Bank in 2006. The non-profit grew regionally through 2011 – serving ‘everyday’ needs of Houston-area groups and responding to regional disasters such as hurricanes, floods and wildfires.

Rescue Bank expanded nationally in 2011, supported by generous donations from GreaterGood.org and major pet food manufacturers. We now distribute grants through our network of non-profit Affiliates, partners that manage warehouses serving their region.

Rescue Bank merged with GreaterGood.org in 2014, creating additional grant opportunities for our recipients. In addition to food and litter, we are now managing donations of veterinary medications, hard goods such as crates, and soft goods such as toys, leashes and collars. Our donor partners include more than 50 national brands.

Since our expansion, Rescue Bank has managed more than 2,700 shipments of donated goods, delivering more than a quarter billion meals to pets in need.
